Wickii Vigneswaran, MD, MBA, FACS, is an experienced thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon dedicated to improving the quantity and quality of life for his patients in Maywood, Illinois, and the surrounding Chicago area.
Dr. Vigneswaran completed medical school at the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka. He went on to complete several residencies in the United Kingdom, including rotations in emergency medicine at the Walsall General Hospital, anesthesiology at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, general surgery at the Freeman Hospital, and thoracic surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Glasgow and Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
After completing his residencies, Dr. Vigneswaran performed fellowships in thoracic surgery in both the United States and the UK. These institutions included the University of Colorado School of Medicine, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, St. Mary’s Hospital in London, Harefield Hospital, also in England, and the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education.
Throughout his 25-year career, Dr. Vigneswaran has participated in several research studies, written three books, and become a leader in thoracic robotic surgery within the state. He’s also a leader in pleural mesothelioma surgery and has advanced expertise in treating numerous conditions like emphysema esophageal reflux disease, cancer of the esophagus, and thoracic outlet syndrome.
Dr. Vigneswaran is certified with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in thoracic surgery (cardiothoracic vascular surgery), and also certified with the Royal College of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. He’s a fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and American College of Surgeons. He’s a past president of the International College of Surgeons and a trustee for the Chest Foundation of the American College of Chest Physicians
When Dr. Vigneswaran isn’t practicing medicine, he enjoys traveling, yoga, and gardening.
